About

Barbara Harris Leonhard’s poetry is curated in various literary magazines and anthologies. Barbara’s poetry has received awards and honors from Well-Versed 2021 and Spillwords Press. She has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. Trending Poets named her Poet of the Year in 2023 and 2024. Some of her poems have been translated into Italian, Albanian, and Chinese. Barbara is the editor for MasticadoresUSA and her literary journal, FEED THE HOLY. She is co-editor for Poetry Bookshelf on LatinosUSA – English Edition.

She’s written a best-selling poetry collection Three-Penny Memories: A Poetic Memoir (Experiments in Fiction, 2022), which is about her relationship with her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. In 2024, Barbara and Nolcha Fox launched a book of poetry collaborations, Too Much Fun to Be Legal, with The Garden of Neuro Institute. The poems are light-hearted views of grief, aging, loss, death, and life happenstance. Her new poetry collection, The Lost Book of Zeroth, with Alien Buddha Press in 2025, is a satirical speculative collection of poems and flash fiction about humanoid AI robots suffering the human condition and creating chaos. Even some of their efforts to do good deeds are scams. This book also contains a chapter of social commentary poems by I, Human.

She lives in Mid-Missouri with her husband. You can follow her on her blog: Extraordinary Sunshine Weaver. If you enjoy her blog and other endeavors, consider supporting her on Buy Me a Coffee. This site also has a shop, where you can order my books. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Hi, there! I loved your series of articles on PhoebeMD.com Great work, and such a powerful story! I’m launching an online mental health magazine/podcast for childless women. You can find it at http://www.pillbaby.com I was wondering if you would like to contribute. I’m just getting the site launched, but would love to have your words out there to share with readers! I would promote the post with a link back to your blog on social media.

Thank you! I will certainly submit. I do have another article, but I posted it a while back on WordPress. I’m not sure if you would consider it. I don’t think Phoebe linked her readers to it. https://extraordinarysunshineweaver.blog/2017/08/24/childless/

I think if it addresses depression as well as infertility, that would be awesome—that’s the idea of the site, that this is a mental health resource for childless women

Ok! I’ll see what I can do. What length? And do you want subheading like she does, or will an editor do all that?

Up to 2000 words is fine. Either you or I can put in subheadings, but if you would prefer to do that go ahead

“I weave in other ways. I’m also a collagist, assembling snippets of images into a new whole with deep meaning. Each collage is a poem. This year, I’ve also started drawing neurographica, and since beginning this art therapy, I can’t believe how many new connections I’ve been making and new opportunities. This art form has changed my life and, I believe, my poetry writing”.
I agree with you, I am also a writer who builds his texts from memory. I don’t have cats, but every morning when I write, at 9 am, a black cat appears in the patio of my house and visits us. Greetings
