Dark Apostle

Rising shadows of flames,

dressed in deep void, I arrive

to burn the bramble of your complacent life.

You hide inside this clay façade,

live for self in idle pleasure,

slumber in this carcass

of addiction and desire.

I hold you down as you writhe in agony,

thrive on your muffled screams.

You smolder in my odious breath.

My laughter, cackling flames.

You recoil, gasping for prayer,

rebuking this demon

and fear that this blood fire

is your last sunrise. Confess,

I fascinate you.

Though cast to the raging depths,

I still rise, a dark angel.

Not all wings are lucent.

This charred cloak is age old,

frayed by lies, greed, addictions.

Inferno flames are still divine.

I am the instigator, the phantom fire

plundering your earth

to crack open your seed

and hasten your growth.

For this you need me, Dark Apostle,

the harbinger sent to alarm and awaken,

to jolt you from trance

into rebirth.

An Angel in the Dark

If I were an angel in the dark,

I would appear in flames simply

from the radiance of my eyes.

I would fire up candles for prayers.

I would make twilight shimmer

like a mirror still lake.

I would awaken you

from slumber and despair,

gather you up gently,

swaddle you in my gossamer wings.

I would cast out your pain with lightning,

incense your soul with soothing myrrh,

bathe you in waves of forgetting,

deliver you to a vista of light

on a path of comets as beacons.

I would gift you wings,

teach you how to fly through

clouds of many colors,

swing on stars falling into a sea of lights.

I would never leave you

in times of battle or new birth,

the time of the death of your pain

a blazing nova, a new sun.

All of this I would do for you.

Who would know more of the legion of light

than an angel of the night?

So Long, My Friend

So long, my friend,

How short was your stay.

I was too caught up

In my mindless days

To sit with you

When your blooms were lush and

Singing in the sun and air.

You were glorious

Even when the snow surprised us all.

Still, you held your back up,

And your crown never fell.

You had bounty in your short time.

I could see your joy

As you swayed in the breeze

And drank in the sun and rain.

I took you for granted though

I said I would stop by more often.

Now as your beauty fades

To crumbled blooms,

Your smile drops and fades

Into the beds of periwinkle

Huddled to catch you, yet

You still seem to dance

As the breath of God gently

Blows your ash into soil

For another year.

Dolphin

Though the seas rage green,

You breathe into each wave,

Riding the vast, fearless,

Sinking into the primordial dimensions

Of creative surge

With child-like wonder,

Playful and joyous.

Instinct seeks its tribe.

Together, you are valiant in battle,

Guarding and protecting

Even the stranger.

Your laughter, a lifeline

For those lost to peace,

Gasping for salvation in the turmoil

Of stormy swells.

How your eyes dance with trust

As your body strikes through

The angry waves

As though saying,

 “Fear not, Friend.

We can lift you up and

Carry you into the gaze

Of the Pleiades, where

You may be swaddled in the arms of

The daughters of Pleione

And cleansed of dust from old Earth

And set to bloom in the Spring.

May you heal and be strong.

May you too be a beacon and

Your heart, the sonar steering sailors

Out of storm and leading the lost

To safe ground.

May you be that joy,

That joy of grace.”

Sleep Chose Me

Sleep Chose Me

Sleep chose me

To take this walk on crisp leaves

Smothered by frost.

Colors, thread bare faces,

Glassy lattice in sun,

Forming halos for owls

As shade dissolves into moonlight,

Magical stasis.

Linger here in truth,

Alone with feathers of snow

Clinging briefly to crystal,

Blazing its fire,

Sizzling in waves of storm

Like smothered sand bits

On the wild shore

Holding my footing.

The colors dim into food for forest.

I trample the earth into new stone,

Bedrock for soul,

My blossom,

With the will to live

In granite.

If Beyond Were Closer

If Beyond Were Closer

If beyond were closer,

Night would guard the morning

And flakes of leaves would glory

To scatter in the wailing

Wisps of wind dressed in threads

Of pale, endless fog mists

That rise to shelter peace.

Angels would strum the harps

Of infinite wired strings

Tangled in the wind’s breath

And tucked to rest beneath

The singing of the strings

And glory of the leaf:

Amid this still asleep,

The shielded morning haze.

The Willow Am I

The Willow Am I

Some people live in the night

While owls of the morning sleep,

And small raindrops creep in the dusk

Like birds of prey upon the dewy grass.

The Willow am I, punished by the hidden sun

That laughs on the edge of night

As I curse the screaming dawn

And burning dew of darkness

To find that subtle light

Embedded in my timeless searching.

How I panic at my failure

To touch its screen from within and without.

I will drown in its rain of sight renewed,

And my thirsty roots,

Blinded in the dark earth,

Shall drink of its golden liquid.

Our Flower

Our Flower

In this light

Our flower is temporal.

From seed, planted in wet earth,

Potential to unfold.

To bud, infant life

Innocent to Time’s story.

To bloom, the perfect burst of

Its dance of life in Sun, our

Beauty in its own rays

Forgotten in decay, for

Time in this light is but

An arrow to ash.

From ash to new light,

The mystery, where

Our flower is always in burst,

Blazing the finest,

Indescribable spectrum,

Our essence in timeless bliss.
