To Heal

To be mindful

is to heal.

Stay focused and decide

To be whole

Though critics say no.

Fear is drought

To the garden.

Let thoughts wander past

As breeze.

May you be robust,

lively, and flush,

Blooming to your prime

As rising sun

Heating the soil

For rain.

May you be the nourishment

Ministering to your heart.

You are the medicine, the cure,

The healer.

Broken Heart

Broken Heart

A broken heart,

The construct of love breached,

Rivets on the bridge

snapping in a storm.

The dam opening,

Spilling grief in torrents,

Flooding with tears

The home in the valley.

Trails and journeys,

Washing away,

Burying hope in sediment.

Lives stiffening into artifacts.

Is it inherent for

Yin to slaughter Yang?

Can a smile balance on

One lip?

Is a journey taken with

One foot?

Is a blossom perched on

No stem?

Are rays emitted by

No sun?

A heart is a quilt sewn with

One continuous thread –

Joy stitching onto grief,

Grief onto hope,

Hope onto despair,

Despair onto joy.

Forms have shadows.

What is a shadow without light?

A heart completes itself.

What is breaking is

Already mending.

What is Healing?

What is healing but
The stabbing to death of pain,
The banishment of shadows,
The release of sorrows,
The burning of poison arrows.

The diseased are their own healers.
Healing requires arbitration and litigation,
For Illness takes possession
As the unwelcome tenant in the temple,
Stripping away a clean visage,
Creating squalor and decay,
Planting bramble in the garden,
Making infertile the soil;
Evading eviction, and even
Dismissing kind offers for other accommodations.

Illness commandeers the ego,
Becoming its own soul.
This unwelcome tenant deceives,
Creating attachments,
Becoming dependable,
Appearing useful,
Providing false amenities, while
Ordering demolition to your heart.
And in so doing,
Laying claim to your prosperity.

But healers can vanquish this tyrant
From their sacred property
Once they know their powers, for
It is the landlord who holds
The keys to the mansion and
The one who can open the gate.

Healer, awaken;
Heal yourself.
Break this unholy contract
Wrought by the thief
Inhabiting your house and
Garnishing your treasures.
