Annuity.org contacted me after they saw my review of Michelle Ayon Navajas poetry book, “After Rain Skies”, which is about domestic abuse and domestic violence. They asked me to share their resources on Annuity.org. Because the website offers vital information to victims of financial abuse, I am happy to help.

My article “Financial Abuse: It leaves no visible scars” was published today by Modern Women on Medium. It explains what financial abuse is, how to identify it, and how to regain financial agency.     As a social worker and advocate for abuse victims. I help them process, and go from survivor to thriver.
    I would love to add your information to what I do for women. November 2 I held a woman’s Event where we invite all women owned businesses, and representatives of local agencies that offer help.

    We use poetry, dance, music, and humor to help audience members understand some of the toughest human circumstances.
    Subjects include domestic violence, mental health, suicide, PTSD, and more. In the audience we have agency representatives to talk to folks after, if they get triggered.

    It isn’t just women or younger people! The elderly (both sexes) are vulnerable to this abuse. We watched helplessly as my stepmother tried to rob my father blind. Luckily, he was smart enough to resist as much as possible. But when he began to deteriorate with Alzheimer’s, my stepmother and her kids tried to take advantage of that situation. My aunt stepped in and was able to get POA for both of us. She knew how to get my father to do things her way, so she was able to eventually force my stepmother to go live with her son and protect my father’s assets from her. It was a big mess for a long time. And APS was only able to do so much. They did step in when it became clear that my stepmother had stopped feeding my father and got a court order to put him in a nursing home. My stepmother would have let him starve to death. One of the key signs of abuse is isolating the victim from family and friends, not allowing outsiders into the home to help, like home health workers and social services, and pretending that the abuser is the real victim.
