Thank you, Strider Marcus Jones, for publishing my four poems written in the manner of Emily Dickinson.
“As For Death”
“I Wish the Words”
“There was a Knock”
“My Mother Haunts My Twitter Feed”
I wrote the first drafts of these poems after attending an online Emily Dickinson Tell It Slant Poetry Festival, offered by the Emily Dickinson Museum. Throughout the week-long festival, volunteers took turns reciting every Dickinson poem. Listening to Dickinson for a few hours a day trained my brain to write with her meter and play with some of her themes and devices.
This festival is offered annually, and now it is a hybrid event – at least it was the last time I attended online. The event went online because of the pandemic. Truly a gift. The Museum is restoring the Homestead, the Dickinson home. Check out the website.
Strider is always so kind. He writes:
“Thankye for sending me these sublime poems. It is a pleasure to read your poetry again and I have now published your four excellent poems on the LPJ Blog. I like the originality of voice, subject, style, atmosphere, language and imagery of each poem and look forward to reading and considering more of your work Barbara.
