A Sonnet to Tinnitus

Thank you, Michelle Ayon Navajas, for publishing my sonnet today on Hotel Masticadores House!

As you may know, tinnitus is ringing in the ears. The screeching sounds are all around me every minute of the day and night, and when I’m trying to sleep, the volume and pitch rise as though some unseen force is turning a volume button. I had a moment or two of silence while doing Hatha yoga once, but I haven’t been able to replicate that tiny miracle. I’ve had this condition for years and don’t know the cause. I know many others suffer this ongoing clamor, so I’m including a link about it in case you suffer and need answers.

On my way to read the poem. I developed tinnitus this past summer, and they are times it drives me crazy.

Such a beautiful poem, Barbara! My husband also suffers from tinnitus and losing his hearing. It’s such a devastating and annoying condition, but you managed to create beauty from it.
