I’m beyond delighted that Yongbo Ma, a Chinese scholar, is translating some of my poems into Chinese. He translated “The Caregiver’s Craft”, which is from my book Three-Penny Memories: A Poetic Memoir and now “The Emperor’s Dragon”, which is about my trip to China in 2009.

Yongbo Ma was born in 1964. He has a PhD and is a translator, editor, and leading scholar of postmodern poetry. He has authored or translated more than 80 published books. Ma is a professor in the Faculty of Arts and Literature at Nanjing University of Science and Technology. His translations from English include works by Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Ezra Pound, Wallace Stevens, W.C.Williams, John Ashbery, Herman Melville and others. Life is truly wonderful. When my friend Barbara visited Nanjing in 2009, I was in the city too, teaching at a university located at the southern foothill of the must-visit Purple Mountain. At that time, we didn’t yet know of each other’s existence in this world, perhaps we had even passed by each other in a crowd. Thanks to the Internet, many poet friends who may never meet in this lifetime can now connect seamlessly and exchange poetry. thanks to Barbara’s poetry for the reading pleasure.
