“Instituto Terra” is up on Chewers by Masticadores!

Thank you, Editor Nolcha Fox, for publishing my poem! Here is the note about the poem, which first appeared on Silver Birch Press. Because of our environmental crisis, I wanted to give this poem more visibility.

The poem was inspired by the story of a couple in Brazil who regrew a forest from a desert.

“Nature is the earth and it is other beings and if we don’t have some kind of spiritual return to our planet, I fear that we will be compromised.”

The story of the Brazilian couple who regrew a forest from arid land inspires me because it shows how the depth of their love for Earth healed the depleted soil and themselves. Although I have never regrown a forest, my husband and I live in peace with spiders, coons, slugs, and squirrels. We coexist with Mother Nature, feeding her birds and keeping poisons off our lawn and garden plants. We understand the balance of nature and cooperate with all living things because we realize that we are all connected. Disruption of our biological connections to all living things creates imbalance and illness, not just for Mother Earth but also for us. If the damage is reciprocal, so too is the healing.

Our garden back in the day when the trees were young and we had the sun to nurture the sprouts. We called that stack of logs “Loghenge”. It slowly broke down ….
🌻Loghenge aged along with us. Our garden guardian is gone, but we’re still here.🌻

Our yard is more like a meadow now. We like the violets and other wildflowers that pop up in the Spring. The deer love to eat the violets. Our kind neighbors may wish we trimmed things up better. But we keep the ivy from growing into the driveway we share with them. 😊

A daffodil blooms in our forest in the back.
